What We Do

SDC runs three main projects every year. Our educational projects both include Computer Training, an essential skill for our community and English Education with Native English-speakers.

Information about all of our projects and programs is available in our Karenni Social Development Center Brochure. This can be printed out and given to anyone interested in our program!

Our main project which has been running annually since our formation, in 2002, is our Basic Course. This is a 10 month course which aims to help students educate themselves about democracy, environmental issues, Human Rights and Law. The course also includes a field work section where students research issues within their community. The course has provided over 200 human rights and environmental activists for our community.

Later in 2008, wanting to further our students skills, we introduced the Advanced Community Management Training Course. This course is now in its fifth year. It has provided over 40 of our graduates with additional skills to help our community.

In addition to our educational courses, we organize our alumni to provide activities inside Karenni State. These activities are specifically designed to supply the local people with the knowledge that will protect them and bring about a free and open democracy for all Karenni people.

Furthermore, SDC runs a number of activities inside the Refugee Camp during the school year. These include our graduations, opening ceremonies, and Human rights day and environment day celebrations. We also attend events by other organizations in order to show our schools support for social issues in the camp.
